--. . . -.- .--- --- -.- . ...
For those of you not "down" with Mr Morse (and I mean Samuel, not Inspector), --. . . -.- .--- --- -.- . ... is "geek jokes", but I'm sure that you knew that. I love how geeks have their own humour that no-one else gets. Maybe that's why The IT Crowd was so loved. Fortunately, with my knowledge of no less that 14 programming languages I am very much a member of the "fraternity of the geek". I knew from a young age that I was going to be a bit of a geek when my favourite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle was Donatello because he was good at science, I liked Gadget the most in Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers, my favourite program was How2 and I knew that Saved By The Bell just wouldn't have been the same without Samual "Screech" Powers. It would have been easy for me to slip into a world of braces, pocket protectors, thick glasses and calculator watches, but I've spent most of my adult life working away from the stereotype in order to prove that geeks aren't all they're labeled to be. Personally though, I prefer to call myself as a techie, rather than a geek. It sounds more "cool gadgets" than "will never kiss a girl"
Anyway, I thought I'd hit you with some things that I've heard recently said by ge... errr... techies, and you can judge your 'geekiness' by how many of the answers you know, or jokes you get.
1. An email came around from IT helpdesk saying that the Internet was going to be down for a couple of hours. The string of responses where as follows:
Techie 1: "I hear their taking the Internet down for cleaning"
Techie 2: "I wonder what they're using"
Techie 1: "Probably Ajax" <-- that's the punchline
2. I was in a meeting about the new language construct Ruby on Rails. The guy giving the presentation was talking about its advantages:
Techie 1: "Ruby is really good for developers as it optimises D.R.Y"
Techie 2: "Pardon?"
Techie 1: "D.R.Y <--- the joke, right there"
Everyone: ***laughs***
Techie 1: "Damn, I walked right into that"
3. http://ideology.com.au/polyglot/polyglot.txt <--- this is the joke
Would you like to know why these are funny? I bet you do!
1. Ajax is not only a cleaning product, but the name of an Internet programming language.
2. D.R.Y is a development method and stands of Don't Repeat Yourself.
3. Ok, so this one is not so much a joke, but an amazingly funny piece of code. What it does, I don't know to be honest, but it's written in eight languages. Eight. That's unbelievable, especially as one is x86 Machine Language.
Hmmm... I take it all back... I quite obviously am a geek. I'm just glad that I went to Specsavers!

my god you really are a geek...if you were a nerd it would be ok bc i <3 nerds...and dorks...but your just a geek :oP

Some girls prefer geeks you know. And I've always hoped that brains are better than beauty...
